Meet the Team

Personalised Learning Dorset is a service set up by educational professionals committed to ensuring all children have the opportunity to take part in a form of education, training or personal development even when they are not currently engaging fully in a mainstream education.

Director and Lead Practitioner

PHIL STEPHENS

Phil has worked with young people in Poole and Bournemouth for the last 15 years, both in schools as a Head of Year and in the community through charity work and outreach services.

 

Phil has an excellent understanding of the challenges facing young people and schools in the area and vast experience in supporting positive change for those he works with. 

 

His vision for Personalised Learning Dorset is to enable all young people to have the opportunity to develop and grow into well rounded and positive members of the community, regardless of their academic ability or background.

    KELLY LONGRIGG

    Lead Teacher

    Kelly is an outstanding practitioner, who specialises in teaching History at KS3, KS4 and KS5. She has worked with young people for 18 years in various forms including the classroom, play settings, mentoring and tuition.

     

    Kelly has also worked as a professional coach; helping others improve their teaching on key areas such as behaviour management, stretch and challenge, differentiation and marking and feedback.

    DERI PAYNE

    Family Support Worker

    Deri has worked with young people for over 35 years, teaching many subjects across KS2 - KS5, specialising in Maths, Design and Art. Deri now supports young people in alternative education, with a holistic approach to learning through support to the individual and their family.

     

    Deri is also a qualified person-centred counsellor who offers walking therapy for young people.

    KYM SHARLAND

    Support Worker

    Kym has worked in Bournemouth secondary schools for 10 years. After gaining her Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification she went on to train as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant, a role that has enabled her to work very closely with children in need of additional support.

     

    Kym has an excellent understanding of the personal challenges and difficulties young people can struggle with and brings a vast knowledge and experience in supporting them.

    KARL HOPTON

    Expedition Leader

    After a career in the Army, Karl trained as an Accredited Facilitator working with NDPDU - National Drug Programme Development Unit of HM Prison Service, working with chaotic substance users in Closed conditions.

    As well as amassing a huge array of life skills, including an Operational Hostage Negotiator and trainer with Dorset Police, he entered education and was employed firstly as a Head of Year then as Head of Behaviour.
